The Rules of Golf

When participating in any of our events, the Player's Edition of the Rules of Golf is relevant for you to successfully compete. All our competitions are governed by the rules of golf, as published by the Royal and Ancient (R&A). It is worth being aware of and studying these rules in order to compete fairly and avoid slowing down play.

The R&A provides a number of resources  to help you learn and understand the rules of the Game.

Online print version

The Player's Edition of the Rules of Golf is intended for you, the golfer. It contains the Rules situations that occur most commonly on the course and is an abridged version of the full Rules. Although its text is edited, it gives you the same answer that is in the full Rules of Golf and so it is a functioning Rule book.

Print Editions

Rule books for golf are available from various publishers (including the R&A) and in many languages. For the traditionalist, a printed copy will always be the preferred version. We recommend checking with your local Pro Shop or Amazon, if you are looking for more options.
